The bucket test

Find out whether it is a leak or just Florida evaporation.

South Florida pools lose water to sun and wind every day. The bucket test separates normal evaporation from a real leak, and it takes 24 hours and a five-gallon bucket.

Fill a bucket with pool water to about three inches from the rim and set it on the second step, unweighted.

Mark the water line inside the bucket and the pool water line outside it, on the same piece of tape.

Leave the pump running as normal for 24 hours. No swimming, no backwashing, no topping off.

Compare the two marks. Evaporation pulls both down together. A leak pulls the pool down further.

Phase two: isolate

We prove which line is losing water

Pressure testing takes each line out of the system one at a time - skimmer, returns, main drain, spa circuit, equipment pad. The test says which pipe fails and which ones hold, so nothing gets opened on a hunch.

Phase three: repair

We open only the marked spot

Repair happens at the located point: the fitting, the section of pipe, the crack in the shell. Deck and coping go back together over the repair. If you would rather take the findings to your own contractor, that is fine too.
